Disabling Automatic Windows Updates to allow updates via Patch Management in Windows 10

This section describes how to allow Windows 10 updates via Patch Management by disabling Windows Automatic Updates.

Patch Management automatically distributes and installs patches for a vast variety of products.

With Patch Management, you can distribute and install the latest Windows 10 updates as an alternative to Windows Automatic Updates.

To do this, you first need to disable Automatic Updates on the endpoints via Group Policy (GPO):

  1. Open Group Policy Object Editor.

  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update.

  3. Set Configure Automatic Updates to Disabled.

  4. Force a GPO update in your network.
