Free up space on the Relay endpoint using the Reconfigure agent task

In this topic you will learn how to free up space on the Relay endpoint via the Reconfigure agent task.

Context

Endpoint agents with Bitdefender Endpoint Security Tools Relay role serve as communication proxy and update servers for other endpoints in the network. A Relay endpoint needs at least 10 GB of additional free disk space on top of the basic security agent configuration requirements. These requirements support a high amount of read/write operations.

Issue

Installation files are added constantly to the Relay endpoint with each Bitdefender product update. After a period of time, these files pile up and eat up disk space.

Solution

To free up more space on your Relay endpoint, use the Reconfigure agent task to delete older installation files, as follows:

  1. Log in to GravityZone Control Center.

  2. Go to the Network page from the left side menu.

  3. Use the Filters to find your Relay endpoint target.

  4. Select the target endpoint check box.

  5. Click the Tasks button at the upper side of the table and choose Reconfigure agent.

  6. In the Reconfigure agent page:

    1. Select the Remove option, and make sure no modules are selected.

    2. Check the Relay role.

    3. Click Save.

      This will delete Relay installation files, signature updates and other related files.

  7. After the task has finished, check if the following folder still exists on the Relay endpoint:

    C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Update Server

    If the folder is not present, it means that the Reconfigure Agent task was successful.

  8. Repeat from step 2 to step 6 to reconfigure the target endpoint to serve as a relay.

    Once you get to the Reconfigure agent page, follow the same instructions but make sure to select the Add option in step 6.

Furthermore, you can use the Reconfigure agent task to move the Relay role to a different endpoint, whenever you come across the following circumstances:

  • The Relay endpoint is using a discontinued OS such as Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.

  • The Relay endpoint performs other functions, such as hosting an application, resulting in poor performance and resource management.

  • The Relay endpoint is not in use, or it is constantly crashing.
