How to Add or Remove a Family Secondary Manager via Bitdefender App

With a Bitdefender Family subscription, you can assign a secondary manager to help oversee your family’s devices and security. This role is ideal for sharing responsibilities with another trusted adult and can be easily set up through the Bitdefender app or the family manager’s Bitdefender account.

What is a Family Secondary Manager?

A secondary manager is an adult family member designated by the family manager to help oversee the Bitdefender family subscription. This role includes the following permissions:

Member management: Invite and manage other family members, excluding the primary family manager and any child profiles created by them.
Security and monitoring: Customize security settings for adults and monitor protection status across family members and devices.
Activity insights: Access the Family Activity dashboard for reports and an overview of the family’s digital health.

Note: Changing payment methods and terminating the subscription are handled exclusively by the primary family manager.

How to Add a Family Secondary Manager via Bitdefender App

Open the Bitdefender app installed on any device linked to the family manager account.
Go to the Members tab.
- On computers: On the left-hand menu, go to “Manage” then access the “Members” tab at the top to view all family members.
- On smartphones: On the bottom navigation bar, tap “Manage” then access the “Members” tab at the top.
In the Members list, click the name of the adult you want to promote, then open the “Member details” section.
- If no members are added yet, click “Add family member” and follow the on-screen instructions to invite the adult you want to assign as a secondary manager.
In the new window, click “Set as secondary manager”.
When prompted, confirm by clicking “Set as secondary manager” again.
The selected member will move to the top of the list and a “Secondary manager” label will appear under their name.
Both the main family manager and the new secondary manager will receive an email notification confirming the role change and outlining the new permissions.

How to Remove a Family Secondary Manager via Bitdefender App

To withdraw the secondary manager role, you must first remove the person from your Family subscription. After that, you can invite them again as a regular adult member.

Open the Bitdefender app installed on any device linked to the family manager account.
Go to the Members tab.
- On computers: On the left-hand menu, go to “Manage” then access the “Members” tab at the top.
- On smartphones: On the bottom navigation bar, tap “Manage” then access the “Members” tab at the top.
In the Members list, click the name of the secondary manager (displayed at the top of the list), then open the “Member details” section.
In the new window, click “Remove member”.
When prompted, confirm by clicking “Remove member” again.
In addition to a 30-day individual Bitdefender subscription in lieu of the family subscription, the removed secondary manager will receive an email informing them of the change.

If you want them to remain in the family plan, you can invite them again from your Bitdefender account or from the Bitdefender app.
