How to Manage and Monitor Family Members via Bitdefender App | Hub

This guide explains how family managers can manage, monitor, and review family members using the Bitdefender app. It covers the Home (Family tab), Manage (Members tab), and Activity sections to help you maintain visibility and control over your family’s protection.

As a family manager, you can access two perspectives within the app:

Personal protection and devices
Family members’ devices and security status

Switching between these views allows you to monitor both your own protection and the overall status of your family members.

Monitor Family Status (Home - Family tab)

The Family tab of the Home dashboard provides a centralized overview of members added to your Family plan, their status, and recent activity. This view is designed to help family managers quickly assess group security and take action when needed.

How to access the Family tab

Open the Bitdefender app installed on any device linked to the family manager or secondary manager account.
On the Home dashboard select the Family tab at the top.

The Family tab is divided into two sections (Family members and Family activity), which are described in detail below.

1. Family members

This section provides an overview of all users included in your Bitdefender Family plan:

Each member name
Role (e.g. Family Manager, Secondary Manager, Adult, Teen, Child). You will see their role here after they install Bitdefender on their devices.
Status indicators – shows alerts or badges on members who require attention:
- Invited members will appear with the status “Pending invitation”.
- Their status will change to “Pending service setup” after they accept the invitation.

Available actions:

Manage (top-right): Access the full member management area
Invite member: Add new users to the family plan

You may also see a suggestion to appoint another adult as a secondary manager to help manage devices and settings.

2. Family Activity

This section provides a preview of recent security-related events affecting family members.

Displays a list of recent activities (e.g. device protection changes, invitation accepted, etc.)
Includes timestamps for each event
Reflects group-level activity, not individual-only data

Add and Manage Family Members (Manage - Members tab)

The Members tab within the Manage dashboard allows you to manage all family members. It combines list management, detailed insights, and filtering tools to help family managers efficiently oversee and maintain their family’s protection setup.

How to access the Members tab

Open the Bitdefender app installed on any device linked to the family manager or secondary manager account.
From the navigation menu, select Manage.
Open the Members tab at the top of the screen.

The Members tab is divided into two main areas, which are described in detail below:

Members – Lists all family members
Member details – Shows detailed information for the selected member

1. Members

The Members list provides a quick overview of all members added to the family plan.

Displays each member with:
- Name
- Role (e.g. secondary manager, adult, teenager, child)
Highlights the currently selected member
Shows notification indicators for members requiring attention

Available actions:

Add another member (+ button) at the bottom of the list
Search (magnifying glass icon) to quickly find a specific member
Filter the list based on criteria (see below)

2. Filter members

The filter option opens a dedicated filtering panel that allows family managers to quickly find specific members based on their protection state or role within the family.

Available filters:

Status

Protected
Pending
At risk

Role

Secondary Manager
Adult
Teenager
Child

Additional options:

Reset filters to clear all selections
Filter to apply selected criteria
Cancel to close without applying changes

3. Member details

Displays detailed information for the selected member.

Member information

Member name and email address
Security status indicators (e.g. protected, pending setup)

Member details

Allows an adult member to be promoted to a secondary manager within the family plan
Removes a member from your Bitdefender plan and revokes their access to shared protection

Services

Shows all Bitdefender services available to the selected member and their status, such as:

Security (e.g. installed/not installed)
SecurePass (e.g. set up/not set up)
VPN (e.g. installed/not installed)

Activity

Shows recent actions and events related to the selected member to help track the onboarding process and history of Bitdefender installations on their devices:

Event-based timeline (e.g. invitation accepted)
Includes timestamps

Review Family Security Events (Activity - Overview tab)

The Activity dashboard provides family managers with a timeline of security-related events across all members added to the family plan. It helps monitor changes, track onboarding progress, and identify issues affecting the group.

How to view Family-related Activity

Open the Bitdefender app installed on any device linked to the family manager or secondary manager account.
From the navigation menu, select Activity.
Select the filter icon in the Overview tab.
In the Filter activity panel, choose Family to show only family events.
Select Filter to apply.
- Alternatively, access it via the main screen, which automatically applies the family filter: Home dashboard → Family tab → Family Activity preview → See all

The Activity Overview tab shows a chronological list of security events, with the most recent at the top:

Invitations sent to new members
Members accepting invitations to join the family plan
A member no longer protecting their device

Together, these sections provide the tools needed to maintain visibility, quickly identify issues, and ensure that all family members’ devices remain properly protected.
