How to Connect to VPN in Bitdefender App (Windows)

Bitdefender VPN helps protect your online privacy by encrypting your internet connection and masking your IP address. Once connected, your online activity becomes more secure, especially when using public Wi-Fi networks such as those found in airports, cafés, or hotels.

If you are using the Bitdefender app on Windows, there are three simple ways to connect to VPN: from the Bitdefender icon in the Windows system tray, from the Bitdefender Home screen, or from the VPN menu inside Services. This guide explains each method in detail so you can choose the one that feels most convenient for you.

How to Connect to VPN on Windows

Method 1: Connect to VPN from the Windows system tray

The quickest way to connect to the VPN is directly from the Bitdefender icon in the Windows system tray. This method is ideal when you want fast VPN access with minimal steps without opening the Bitdefender app.

In the bottom-right corner of the Windows taskbar, click the upward arrow (^) to display hidden icons. When you hover your mouse over it, the tooltip reads Show hidden icons.
Right-click the Bitdefender icon in the hidden icons panel and select Connect to VPN from the menu.
Within a few seconds, Bitdefender automatically connects to the nearest VPN server and displays the notification: Internet connection secured.

Method 2: Connect to VPN from the Home screen Quick actions

Another easy way to connect is through the Quick actions section on the Bitdefender Home screen. This approach is useful when you are already on the main Bitdefender dashboard and want quick access without navigating through additional menus.

Open the Bitdefender app on your Windows PC.
On the Home screen, look for the Quick actions section near the top of the window. This area contains shortcuts such as Quick Scan, System Scan, and Connect to VPN.
Click Connect to VPN.

Bitdefender immediately connects to the nearest VPN server. After the connection is established, your internet activity is routed through the VPN server automatically.

Method 3: Connect to VPN from the Services menu

The Services section gives you full access to the VPN interface and settings. This method is recommended if you want more control over your VPN connection, such as selecting a different server location or reviewing connection information.

Open the Bitdefender app and select Services from the left-side navigation panel.
Next, click VPN in the submenu that appears. This opens the dedicated VPN dashboard, where you can view your connection status, virtual location, traffic information, and privacy features.
To connect, click the blue Connect ⏻ button displayed on the screen.

By default, Bitdefender automatically connects to the nearest server location based on your region.

If VPN Premium is included in your subscription, you can also use the Locations button to connect to a different virtual location.

After the VPN connection is active, the interface updates to show the virtual location. A summary of your connection time, the amount of secured traffic, and the last 5 locations you connected to are also shown on the VPN dashboard.

While the VPN is connected, a small blue circle appears on the Bitdefender icon in the Windows taskbar. Hovering the mouse cursor over the icon displays the tooltip: Bitdefender VPN is connected.

How to Disconnect from VPN

Disconnecting from Bitdefender VPN works the same way as connecting. You can disconnect from any of the three locations described earlier in this guide.

Once the VPN connection is active, the Connect to VPN option or Connect button changes to Disconnect.
