“Support Ending for Intel-based Apps” Notification after Updating to macOS 26.4

After updating to macOS 26.4, some Bitdefender users may see the following system message:

support ending for Intel-based Apps

Support Ending for Intel-based Apps

This version of Virus Scanner Plus will not open in a future release of macOS. Learn how to update to an Apple silicon version.

This is an Apple system notification and does not indicate an issue with your Bitdefender Virus Scaner Plus installation.

Why you see a Support Ending for Intel-based Apps message

Apple is in the final stages of transitioning Mac computers from Intel processors to Apple silicon (M-series chips like M1, M2, M3, etc.). As part of this transition:

  • Applications built for Intel architecture can still run on Apple silicon Macs using Apple’s compatibility layer, Rosetta.
  • However, Apple has begun warning users when an app still depends on Intel components, as this compatibility will eventually be removed in a future macOS release.

In macOS 26.4, Apple has started displaying proactive alerts for apps such as Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus that still include Intel-based components, even if the app itself is fully compatible with Apple silicon.

This does not mean Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus is no longer working. Your Bitdefender protection remains fully functional. It is only a future compatibility warning from Apple.

How to Update Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus to an Apple Silicon Version

Bitdefender is actively working on updates to fully align Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus with Apple’s evolving architecture. Future updates will remove any remaining Intel-based components and ensure full compatibility with upcoming macOS releases in which Intel support is removed.

Bitdefender will roll out an Apple Silicon-native version of Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus in the coming months as part of its ongoing macOS compatibility roadmap. Users will automatically receive these improvements via App Store. Until then, no action is required.
