GravityZone licensing and registration

Bitdefender GravityZone provides full visibility into organizations' overall security posture, global security threats, and control over its security services that protect virtual or physical desktops, servers and mobile devices. All Bitdefender's Enterprise Security solutions are managed within the GravityZone through a single console, Control Center, that provides control, reporting, and alerting services for various roles within the organization.

This article explains how to license each GravityZone security service and how to manage the license keys.

Overview

The GravityZone Enterprise Security architecture includes a management component, consisting of a web console known as Control Center, and several security services:

  1. Security for Virtualized Environments - ensuring optimized security for virtualized environments with a high density of VMs.
  2. Security for Endpoints - offering advanced and proactive detection.
  3. Security for Mobile - enabling a secured "bring your own device" adoption, with easy delivery and mobile device management for effective administration.
  4. Security for Exchange - ensuring a secure messaging and collaboration environment and increased productivity.
note Note:
Bitdefender GravityZone Control Center does not require any license. It is provided for free with any GravityZone security service.

The GravityZone security services are licensed and sold separately.
Each GravityZone security service requires a valid license key. At least one valid license key must be provided for using GravityZone.

Licensing the GravityZone Security Services

Licensing Security for Endpoints

With Security for Endpoints, you can opt for one out of three licensing options for physical machines:

  1. Both servers and workstations
  2. Only servers
  3. Only workstations (desktops, laptops, notebooks, etc.)

Licensing Security for Virtualized Environments

With Security for Virtualized Environments, you can opt for one of these licensing options:

  1. Per CPU (suitable for larger datacenters). The license must cover the total number of CPUs of the hosts from virtualized environment.
  2. Per virtual machine (suitable for smaller environments). The license for virtualized environment is split in two types:
    • VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure), for desktop operating systems.
    • VS (Virtual Servers), for server operating systems.

For reference, please consider the following scenarios:

  • In server virtualization, one physical CPU is expected to run about 4 virtual server systems.
  • The number of concurrent virtual machines depends on the resources they require.
  • In desktop virtualization, one physical CPU is expected to run about 32 virtual desktops.

Licensing Security for Mobile

GravityZone Security for Mobile can be licensed using one single key string. This license key can cover both mobiles and tablets.

Licensing Security for Exchange

GravityZone Security for Exchange is licensed per number of active mailboxes (including room, equipment and shared mailboxes). A mailbox is counted once even if it has multiple email addresses (i.e. aliases) attached. The license allows installing protection on all supported Exchange Servers in the organization. In addition to Microsoft Exchange protection, the license also covers the endpoint protection modules installed on the server. Please note that all active mailboxes in the Exchange organization are taken into account, even if you install protection only on some of the existing Exchange Servers.

note Note:
You can choose to test GravityZone and decide if it is the right solution for your organization. To activate your evaluation period, you must enter in Control Center the evaluation license key you received in the registration email.
