Independent security firm AV-Test.org finds flagship BitDefender product passes rigorous tests with 99 percent detection rate and industry-best 95 percent cleaning rate

Today BitDefender®, an award-winning provider of innovative internet security solutions, announced that BitDefender Internet Security 2011 passed the AV-Test.org 2010 third quarter tests with high marks across a battery of antivirus-specific assessments, including the high-value categories of virus detection and removal. The tests measured BitDefender Internet Security’s antivirus engine, which is the same technology that powers all of BitDefender’s 2011 security products.

The independent testing agency assessed BitDefender along with 18 other security products in the areas protection, repair and usability. The tests included:

  • Static and dynamic malware detection, including real-world 0-Day attack testing
  • System disinfection and rootkit removal in detail.
  • System slow-down caused by the tools and the number of false positives.

in October 2010BitDefender came out on top, ensuring users - especially new users looking for a better security solution -have the best tools possible to rid their computers of viruses.

“Many computer users choose BitDefender because they have an ongoing issue with malware that’s infected their system and are looking for a better solution. Our performance in the virus removal categories reflects what our users already know – we have the best removal tools available,” said Viorel Canja, Head of AntiMalware Labs at BitDefender. “The AV-Test.org battery of assessments are some of the most challenging for security providers and it’s rewarding to confirm we’re providing our customers with the best protection available.”

“BitDefender’s malware detection leaves no room for complaints. Their detection rate in the third quarter was better than 99 percent - compared to the industry average of only 96 percent - and BitDefender’s on-demand scanner generated only one false positive during the three months of testing, while other solutions typically created an average of three false positives,” said Andreas Marx, CEO of AV-Test.org. “These results were accomplished without slowing down the system the way other products did. In fact, BitDefender required only half the resources compared to the average product in the test.”
