February 5, 2007 BitDefender, an award-winning provider of antivirus software and data security solutions, today announced that its anti-spam engine has been awarded the Checkmark PC anti-spam certification by independent UK certification outfit West Coast Labs. By blocking 97 percent of all spam during the certification process, BitDefender was awarded the Premium Checkmark Award, the highest certification possible.

The new anti-spam engine was tested as part of the overall BitDefender Mail Protection for Enterprises product suite. Available immediately through BitDefenders automatic update system, the new anti-spam engine offers a number of new features, including an advanced image filter to protect users from the growing use of image based spam. Through a combination of these new features and the products existing spam signatures and URL database, BitDefender was able to attain the high detection rate needed for premium certification.

Designed for high-traffic mail servers, BitDefender Mail Protection for Enterprises offers the industrys most complete set of antivirus, anti-spam and anti-spyware filtering available, meeting the security needs for targeted market segments including enterprises and Internet Service Providers.

BitDefender Mail Protection for Enterprises is a highly customizable antispam solution thanks to the use of various downloadable modules", said Richard Thomas, test engineer, West Coast Labs.

"The new anti-spam engine is a direct result of both the hard work of our own labs, and the intense beta testing program we went through with the Linux community," commented Vlad Valceanu, Head of Antispam Research, BitDefender. "Only the best engineered product that incorporates regular updates and is backed by a lab that is constantly monitoring the threat landscape can adequately protect consumers from spam. The Premium Checkmark certification shows that we are doing our job.
