Bitdefender Wins Its Sixth ‘Best Android Security’ Award from AV-TEST

AV-TEST, one of the world’s most prominent IT security research institutes, is out with the results of its annual mobile security benchmarks, naming Bitdefender the winner of this edition’s Android Security test. Bitdefender has now won six such awards in the past decade – more than any other player in the industry in that time.

Android smartphones ship with a few more freedoms than competing devices. Often, criminals exploit these freedoms to deploy data-stealing malware, stalkerware, SMS phishing, and other threats. Simply put, hackers find Android a viable target which, in turn, makes it important that users understand these risks and take steps to combat them.

AV-TEST notes that hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people worldwide rely on an Android handset to store and transfer personal data, communicate with others, store precious photos, and carry out all the other tasks and services the technology allows. According to the institute, “that is why optimal protection has to be found for Android user devices and their contents.”

Like in years prior, all mobile security products reviewed in 2022 by AV-TEST were evaluated according to a predetermined test structure, which includes categories like Protection, Performance and Usability. The year-long benchmark also evaluates effectiveness in fending off advanced threats, like ransomware.

Each individual value that a product delivers in a test year is added into a large, internal evaluation matrix. If a product demonstrates peak results throughout the year, it has a shot at winning one of the coveted AV-TEST awards.

Consistently high test results

In the mobile security department, Bitdefender achieved the highest score and took home the gold, winning the Best Android Security award.

AV-TEST chose Bitdefender Mobile Security out of 17 mobile security products for Android after earning perfect scores in protection against Android malware attacks in real time, detection of newly-discovered malware strains, as well as in performance – for not impacting battery life or slowing down the device – and usability, for zero false warnings about legitimate applications.

“You really have to congratulate Bitdefender on winning this award. Consistently high test results for a protection app in the fast-moving field of Android malware are not to be taken for granted. That's why the AV-TEST team was all the more pleased to confer the AV-TEST Best Android Security 2022 Award for Consumer Users to Bitdefender.”

-- AV-TEST CEO, Andreas Marx

“Bitdefender has proven its excellence in protection, performance and usability each year that we've tested their mobile security solutions. This year marks the sixth time we've selected Bitdefender Mobile Security as the best offering on the market for Android Security due to its outstanding ability to block malware, with zero false positives, while maintaining performance and usability of the mobile device.”

-- AV-TEST CEO Maik Morgenstern

A decade of domination

Bitdefender is at its sixth such milestone in AV-TEST’s book in the past decade – more than any other cybersecurity vendor evaluated in the annual benchmark during that time.

In January, Austrian antivirus testing lab AV-Comparatives honored Bitdefender with the coveted Product of the Year award for the fifth time – also more than any other vendor in the past decade.

Later that month, Bitdefender won PCMag’s Readers' Choice Award for 2023, with the magazine’s readers rating us high in overall satisfaction and likelihood to recommend, as well as cost, ease of use, and overall perceived trustworthiness of the brand.
