A. Overview
You can find below the default locations where every internet browser is storing the temporary internet files depending on the operating system:
Windows XP:
For Internet Explorer: most common location is C:\Documents and Settings\
C:\Documents and Settings\
or in C:\Documents and settings\LocalService\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
Note: The last location can only be deleted by manually accessing the folder and removing it.
For Mozilla Firefox: C:\Documents and Settings\
For Google Chrome: C:\Documents and Settings\
For Safari: C:\Documents and Settings\
For Opera: C:\Documents and Settings\
Windows Vista/7:
For Internet Explorer:
C:\Users\
C:\Users\
For Mozilla Firefox: C:\Users\
For Google Chrome: C:\Users\
For Safari: C:\Users\
For Opera: C:\Users\
B. To clean the Temporary Internet Files you should:
1. Reboot in Safe Mode with Networking - check this article for step by step instructions
2. Then either:
a) show hidden files and folders and manually delete the corresponding files
How to display hidden files and folders
Note: if you cannot find Folder Options
For Windows XP: you can either try to switch Control Panel to classic view or open MyComputer > from the top menu bar click on Tools > Folder Options…
For Windows Vista/7: you can either change “View by” to Small/Large icons instead of Category or open Computer > press alt from your keyboard > now from the top menu bar click on Tools > Folder Options…
Browse to the respective location(s) and delete the file(s), then reboot in Normal Mode.
b) start the corresponding internet browser and use the option to clear Internet Cache:

For Safari: open the browser, then press CTRL+ALT+E from your keyboard, then click on Empty
For Opera: Open Opera > Click the Tools menu (if you are not seeing it click on the MENU (BIG RED O) in upper left and select Show menu bar) > click Delete Private Data > in the Delete Private Data window, click Detailed Options > check Delete Entire > Cache. Note that any other checked items will also be cleared, so un-check any that you do not want to clear > Click Delete.
