Bot of the Month

This month, the Sasser burst dried up...

This month, the Sasser burst dried up with the apprehension of its author, making it the most remarkable absence in our top.
The LSASS-exploiting worms haven't at all gone, sadly; Bobax.C took on where the Sasser series had left off, and climbed up to
the ninth spot, in just two weeks of existence.

On a different note, we seem to be witnessing the return of the bots, with figures markedly rising in the past month. It
appears that there is something to be said about the botnet concept after all. Agobot3 aka Phatbot is still loitering at
the middle of our top, despite (or perhaps because of) being a media darling in the past few months.

A notable presence is that of Welchia.B, still hanging strong despite the fact that its predecessor (MsBlast) has left our top.

The top of the tops this month is SDBot, a wholly unremarkable trojan IRC bot, which exists in countless variants. Its
ability to accept commands and updates over IRC has made it a fave of script kiddies everywhere and a pest on every network
in sight.

But perhaps more intriguing than the winner is that of the first runner-up: an old worm by the name of Netsky.P@mm, that
has been climbing again into a leading position, aided by a lack of serious competition in the mass-mailer sector.

Comments aside, this is the monthly virus top ten from BitDefender, in an eye-friendly format:

1Backdoor.SDBot.gen
2Win32.Netsky.P@mm
3Exploit.Iframe.Vulnerability
4Trojan.Downloader.Dyfuca.BQ
5Win32.NetSky.D@mm
6Backdoor.Agobot.3.Gen
7Trojan.Downloader.Small.Gen
8Trojan.Downloader.QDown.B
9Win32.HLLW.Bobax.C
10Win32.Worm.Welchia.B
