New BitDefender technologies to get first outing at CeBIT

BitDefender will be showcasing new technologies to decrease reaction time at the CeBIT Fair in Hannover. While details remain shrouded in secrecy, some data on the new inventions has already been disclosed. They concern the two main areas of updating and detection and seem set to change the way we think about antivirus protection.

BitDefender CTO Bogdan Dumitru declared: "The field of heuristic analysis has just been pushed another inch forward. BitDefender customers can expect automatic detection for 60% of new viruses, without the need for signature updates. The technology will be phased in over a period of months, but we should start seeing results immediately after launch. I am not at a liberty to comment further, right now, but we should be ready to make an official announcement at the CeBIT Fair in Hannover."

The signature update approach has long been criticised by industry watchers and media, because it is seen as "reactive" rather than "proactive" security. If the new technology pays off, we might well say goodbye to the days of the "update race" between antivirus companies, which has BitDefender firmly (and ironically) established in the leading position.

UPDATE:

A press conference is scheduled on the 12th of March current in Hall 12 of the Convention center, on the grounds of the Hannover CeBIT fair, in which further details about the new HIVE technology will be revealed to the media. BitDefender CTO Bogdan Dumitru will be available for questions. The keynote address will be delivered by the company owner and CEO, Mr. Florin Talpes. His Excellency, the Romanian Minister of Communications and Technology, Mr. Nagy Zsolt, is also scheduled to attend the event.
