BitDefender releases free removal tool for Fizzer virus

BitDefender, an award-winning provider of security software and services, today released a free removal tool against the virus Fizzer (Win32.Fizzer.A@mm), an executable mass-mailer, also qualified as a file-infector. The virus has the ability to record keystrokes from infected computer and to act as a backdoor, sending data through IRC channels.

�The virus uses the e-mail and the KaZaA file-sharing network in order to spread and mIRC and AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) to issue commands on the victim's computer. These actions qualified it as a potential danger for computer users, so they called for the immediate release of a free, dedicated antivirus tool to cure the infected systems�, Patrick Vicol, Virus Researcher at BitDefender stated. �Still, for permanent protection against this kind of threats, we recommend the use of permanent, memory-resident antivirus software. As a physician would say, it is always easier to prevent than to treat�, Patrick concluded.

The free removal tool is available in three international languages (English, Spanish and German) on the BitDefender websites.
