German Authorities Seize Kingdom Market Dark Web Marketplace

International Sting: The Fall of Kingdom Market

German authorities and law enforcement from the US, Ukraine, Moldova and Switzerland have seized the infamous Kingdom Market cybercrime marketplace in a joint operation.

The Dark Web marketplace facilitated the sale of illicit goods, including fake government IDs, drugs and hacking tools, to its visitors. Kingdom Market’s website has been online since March 2021 and has been accessed by visitors worldwide.

Members of the shady marketplace peddled forged documents, drugs, malware, stolen personal information, and cybercrime services. Platform users would pay in cryptocurrencies, including Zcash, Litecoin, Monero, and Bitcoin, to obfuscate their activity.

42,000 Illicit Listings Vanish

According to a press release from the Federal Criminal Police Office in Germany (BKA), the marketplace had 42,000 items listed for sale when it was seized, including 3,600 from Germany.

The document also specifies that authorities are analyzing the infrastructure of the seized server in hopes of finding the identities of Kingdom Market’s operators.

Authorities Target Dark Web Operators

One suspect with ties to the marketplace has already been arrested; Alan Bill, a Slovak national operating under the monikers of “Vendor” and “KingdomOfficial,” was allegedly one of the platform’s administrators.

Kingdom Market’s users took to Dread, the Dark Web’s version of Reddit, to voice dissatisfaction about their monetary losses after the downfall of the marketplace. As BleepingComputer reported, Dread staff spread rumors about multiple individuals with access to the marketplace server infrastructure being arrested.

Furthermore, German authorities used Kingdom Market’s official PGP key to message registered members, letting them know that “the kingdom has fallen.” Members met the message with raised eyebrows, many suspecting the operators of exit scamming, but BKA’s official announcement about the seizure cleared the air.

Seizure of a Dark Web Titan

The downfall of Kingdom Market, a pivotal Dark Web player, highlights the increasing precision and reach of international cybercrime investigations. This operation, spanning continents and cutting through layers of digital anonymity, not only disrupts a significant illegal marketplace but also serves as a warning that, even in the web's darkest corners, justice has its eyes wide open.
