Why Your Kids Keep Saying “Six-Seven”

The other day, my tween daughter leaned in and whispered, “Six-seven.” At first, I thought I’d misheard her. “What did you say?”

“Six-seven,” she repeated, this time with a mischievous grin and a dramatic little hand gesture for extra flair.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I asked.

“I’m not telling. Search it yourself,” she said — clearly enjoying the mystery.

Of course, I did — immediately. Many of the articles I write for this section of the blog are inspired by her online discoveries and the conversations that follow.

Parents, it’s official: we have another overnight TikTok trend on our hands. Somewhere between six and seven, the internet went wild. Across living rooms, kitchens, and car rides, kids everywhere are saying it — and laughing while we’re left wondering what on earth is going on.

Here’s the big mystery revealed.

Where did “6–7” come from?

The phrase comes from a rap song called “Doot Doot” by Skrilla. In one part, he says “six-seven” in a catchy cadence that TikTok found irresistible. Soon, users began pairing the sound with clips of basketball players — especially LaMelo Ball, who happens to be six-foot-seven. Then came the inevitable twist: a kid at a basketball game mimicked it live, adding a bouncy hand motion. Within hours, the internet crowned a new meme.

So… what does it actually mean?

Nothing. That’s the beauty of it. “6–7” isn’t a secret phrase, an acronym, or some coded reference. It’s just fun to say, easy to copy, and makes kids feel like they’re part of something. In other words, it’s classic internet humor: random, harmless, and over before parents even figure out what’s happening.

Should parents worry?

Not this time. Unlike challenges that push risky behavior or slang that hides real meanings, “6–7” is just goofy fun. The worst it can do is get stuck in your head for the next six or seven hours.

But trends like this are a good reminder of how quickly online culture evolves. By the time we decode one, a dozen new ones are already popping up.

You can’t — and don’t need to — scroll TikTok 24/7 to keep up. We’ll help you stay informed about what kids are saying, doing, and posting — from the weird to the wonderful sides of the internet.

Parental controls also help you do that. Bitdefender Parental Control lets you see which apps your kids use and what content they watch, so you can laugh at the funny stuff and step in if something less innocent starts trending.

So go ahead, parents — take a deep breath and count to ten. Just be ready for someone in the backseat to yell, “Six-seven!”

Disclaimer: When it comes to your family’s safety, Bitdefender doesn’t do six or seven, it always goes for a ten.
