Catches All Malware Used in August Testing

BUCHAREST, Romania – Sept. 8, 2011- Bitdefender, an award-winning provider of innovative internet security solutions, won another VB100 award after Bitdefender Security for Fileserverscaught all malware used in the August round of tests by Virus Bulletin.

The win was the second this year for Bitdefender Security for Fileservers, following testing in June on a Windows Server 2008 R2 platform. Bitdefender has won 11 VB100 awards in the past three years from Virus Bulletin, the independent comparative testing and certification organization.

“The testing is another confirmation of the quality and security that Bitdefender delivers on an ongoing, consistent basis,” said Viorel Canja, head of Bitdefender’s Antimalware and Antispam Labs. “We have some of the most experienced and talented virologists in the world so it’s pleasant – but not really a surprise – to get more independent confirmation that we have great products.”

August’s rigorous testing process, carried out on a Windows Vista x64 bits Business Ed platform, revealed weaknesses in several other products, according to the Virus Bulletin team. Bitdefender Security for Fileservers scored perfectly.

“This month's VB100 tests on Windows Vista proved to be something of a marathon for the VB test team, with several of the 48 products on test misbehaving - causing crashes, blue screens and system slowdowns,” according to the Virus Bulletin team.

To win a VB 100 award, testing must prove that the product “detects, both on demand and on access, in its default settings, all malware known to be 'In the Wild' at the time of the review, and generates no false positives when scanning a set of clean files.”

The Oxfordshire, UK-based Virtual Bulletin, founded in 1989 as a source of intelligence on computer malware, conducts its comparative testing of anti-virus products every two months.
