BitDefender for Linux Mail Servers version 1.6.2 was launched today. The changelog tells about a few bugfixes and various integration issues solved, along with cosmetic changes. The story, however, is a bit longer than that.

1.6.2 will be the last released version of the seven dedicated products (BitDefender for Sendmail, Sendmail Milter, qmail, Postfix, CommuniGate Pro and Courier, and SMTP Proxy). These are to be replaced by a single product, BitDefender Mail Protection for Small and Medium Businesses.

"BitDefender Mail Protection for Small and Medium Business is due out at the end of this month, and will constitute the stepping stone towards the next major version, 2.0. It is aimed at companies with limited IT resources, and as such, it will work out-of-the-box with any and all Linux distributions and MTA's. An open beta test is scheduled, so stay tuned for a preview," declared Alexandru Balan, BitDefender Product Marketing Manager.
