[Product Update] It’s here, and you’ll love it: New feature of Bitdefender BOX allows you to ’talk’ to it through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa

We’ve just launched the feature that allows you to ”talk” with Bitdefender BOX with the help of personal assistants Google Home or Amazon Alexa. This innovative skill is now available for all BOX users and will hopefully trigger people without one to try it.

Not only does it protect all the smart gadgets from your home, but from now on, it can ”report” to you in real time, with the voice of either of the two personal assistants. But there’s more. For Google Home, you can also enjoy this feature with the voice command on phones with Android version 5.0 and above, devices with iOS 10.0 and above, and Chromebooks; while for Amazon on Alexa, Echo Dot, Echo, Echo Show, Echo Spot, and Fire TV Cube.

So, if you are ready to step up one more level in tech evolution, here is what you need to do.

How to get it

If you have the assistant from Google, open the Google Home app. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu, and tap again Explore. Search through the list of apps for Bitdefender. When you see it, tap on it. Tap Link, then enter your Bitdefender Central login credentials.

To enable the Bitdefender skill on your Amazon Alexa, open the Alexa app on your smartphone. Tap on the menu icon and go to the Skills menu and search for Bitdefender. Tap on Bitdefender, then tap on ENABLE. You will be prompted to log in to your Central account. Type your username and your password, then tap on SIGN IN. And that’s all, Bitdefender will synchronize with Amazon Alexa.

How it works

Once the synchronization with the personal assistant is done successfully, you can ask Bitdefender BOX about your network’s activity, your subscription status, the number of devices connected to your home Wi-Fi, whether any of them are vulnerable, how much time your child spent on his/her device or a specific app and much more.

Here are some examples of how to formulate questions for Google Assistant:

“OK, Google, ask Bitdefender how is my network activity today.”

“OK, Google, ask Bitdefender how many devices I have in my network.”

It works the same way for Alexa:

“Alexa, ask Bitdefender what’s my subscription status.”

“Alexa ask Bitdefender: Do I have vulnerable devices in my network?”

You can also command a scan of any smart device in your home, from laptops to printers, computers and smart bulbs:

“OK, Google/ Alexa, ask Bitdefender, run a scan on my laptops.”

And if you have installed Parental Control on your children’s gadgets, you can find out more  about their online activity.

“OK, Google, ask Bitdefender how much time did my child spend on his devices.”

“OK, Google, ask Bitdefender how much time did my child spend on Facebook today.”

For inspiration, check the complete list with questions.

Any time you say ”HELP ME”, the assistant will give you the list of all available commandsand skills.

Or contact us. We’d be as happy as Bitdefender BOX to answer your questions and receive your feedback.

I have enabled Bitdefender on my Alexa app. My app shows that it is enabled. However, when I ask “Alexa, ask Bitdefeder to ……”, Alexa thinks I am saying “Fitbit” or “defender” or something else.
    Very frustrating!!
