Website Defacement Reveals Turkish, Libyan and Syrian Brotherhood

The Turkish Foreign Ministry was hacked, and photos of Prime Minister Recep Tayyp Erdogan embracing Syrian president and Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi were posted online, according to media reports.

The headline above the images read “Ministry of War and Slavery, not Foreign Affairs,” while the caption read “Brothers yesterday, enemies today.” RedHack hackers also grabbed personal data of hundreds of foreign diplomats.

“The group provided a link to a Dropbox file-sharing address, which contained images of the identity cards the Turkish Foreign Ministry has issued for foreign diplomats working in Turkey,” PanARMENIAN.Net reports.

Authorities claim the webpage that was hacked didn`t include any secret or critical information, and the RedHack members accessed the data by exploiting a loophole in the system.

“The attack was immediately repelled by TÃœBÄ°TAK and Interior Ministry personnel who are now working on to fix the loophole,” the Foreign Ministry representative said, as quoted by Hürriyet Daily News.

The official also said they had determined the locations of the hackers and seven suspects have already been arrested.

The reason behind the Turkish attack is allegedly the carnage of Anatolian city Sivas, where 36 people were killed nine years ago. Many were intellectuals of the Alawite minority, and ended up burning alive after Sunni militants set their hotel on fire.

“The group was attending a festival on Alevi poetry and literature. A trial ended two years ago without a verdict after the statute of limitations expired for the suspects,” ANSAmed reports.

Socialist group RedHack claims the people arrested for the attack are clean-handed, and demands their release.
