Troubleshooting client-server synchronization issues

Bitdefender Management Agent is the component deployed on each workstation that you want to be managed by Bitdefender Management Server. It is used to ensure communication between Bitdefender management server and the Bitdefender Client products installed on a specific workstation.

It fulfills three main functions:
  • queries Bitdefender Management Server to learn the security policies that need to be applied to the local workstation;
  • applies the security policies received from management server;
  • sends the results of the applied policies to management server;

In some cases, communication malfunctions may appear between the Management Console and the Management Agents; You will need to check the following:
  • If the client machine is turned off or the management agent service is stopped;
  • A 3rd-party software/hardware firewall exists between the server and the client -  ensure that the communication port is opened in the firewall (on the server machine); in order to check this behavior, you can open a command prompt window (on the client machine) and telnet the server's IP on the agent port ( for example telnet 192.168.0.1 7072). If the communication is working properly the window should turn black; else, you will receive an error message; 
  • If the management agent is not set to point to the correct management server. To check this, please follow below steps:

  1. Open on the client machine the following location:
    • %systemdrive%:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bitdefender\Enterprise 3\Agent;
  2. Open agent.xml using a text editor; search for the tag below :
    • "ServerAddress>![CDATA[10.160.0.6]]
    • ServerPort>7072"

Note: The management server IP and the agent communication port should be typed correctly in order to point to the real management server; If one of them contains a wrong value, correct it with the right information;
