The solution secures organizations email services and provides increased productivity by blocking spam and providing common centralized management tools.

This article provides information on the new Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers 3.1.4 version released on August 30, 2013. This new version is currently available for Linux only. Support for FreeBSD and Solaris is to be released within the following weeks.

Overview

The new Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers 3.1.4 Linux packages include all product updates and patches delivered since the previous release (version 3.1.2), as well as a number of other improvements and bug fixes.

NOTE: Starting with version 3.1.4, Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers requires Internet connectivity, either directly or through an HTTP proxy, for license activation and periodic validation. However, the product can work without Internet connection for several days.

New Features and Improvements

  • Reduced memory consumption with up to 40% compared to the previous version.
  • Added support for content filtering inside HTML emails.
  • New licensing mechanism.
  • Updated the Administrator's Guide. You can download it from here.

Resolved Issues

  • The new licensing mechanism fixes outages in Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers operation reportedly occurring with the older licensing mechanism in particular situations.
  • Fixed an issue in the Sendmail Milter integration, where the wrong option was being added to sendmail.cf.
  • The Remote Admin console now allows deleting RBL servers containing dashes or underscores.

Known Issues

  • Man pages were not updated.
  • License activation and periodic validation does not work with ISA proxy using basic or NTLM authentication.

Upgrade

Existing customers can easily upgrade from version 3.1.2 to version 3.1.4 by running the new installation package over their existing installation. The upgrade will preserve the current product settings.

If your installation is running on a legacy machine, before upgrading, make sure the minimum hardware requirements are met:

  • Minimum RAM memory: 512 MB
  • Minimum free hard disk space: 500 MB (note that quarantine and logs will require additional space)

NOTE: Starting with version 3.1.4, Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers requires Internet connectivity, either directly or through an HTTP proxy, for license activation and periodic validation. However, the product can work without Internet connection for several days.

  1. Download the installation package suitable for your environment:
    • rpm: 32-bit, 64-bit
    • deb: 32-bit, 64-bit
    • ipk: 32-bit, 64-bit
    • Packages are named according to the following convention: BitDefender-Security-Mail-3.1.4-linux-{arch}.{pkg}.run, where {arch} substitutes for i586 or amd64 and {pkg} substitutes for the package type (rpm, deb, ipk)
