Security for Mail Servers Version 3.1.4 (Linux) Release Notes
Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers protects Windows or UNIX-based mail servers for known and unknown security threats with award winning proactive antivirus, antispyware, antispam, antiphishing, content and attachment filtering technologies. The solution secures organizations email services and provides increased productivity by blocking spam and providing common centralized management tools.
This article provides information on the new Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers 3.1.4 version released on August 30, 2013. This new version is currently available for Linux only. Support for FreeBSD and Solaris is to be released within the following weeks.
Overview
The new Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers 3.1.4 Linux packages include all product updates and patches delivered since the previous release (version 3.1.2), as well as a number of other improvements and bug fixes.
NOTE: Starting with version 3.1.4, Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers requires Internet connectivity, either directly or through an HTTP proxy, for license activation and periodic validation. However, the product can work without Internet connection for several days.
New Features and Improvements
- Reduced memory consumption with up to 40% compared to the previous version.
- Added support for content filtering inside HTML emails.
- New licensing mechanism.

Resolved Issues
- The new licensing mechanism fixes outages in Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers operation reportedly occurring with the older licensing mechanism in particular situations.
- Fixed an issue in the Sendmail Milter integration, where the wrong option was being added to sendmail.cf.
- The Remote Admin console now allows deleting RBL servers containing dashes or underscores.
Known Issues
- Man pages were not updated.
- License activation and periodic validation does not work with ISA proxy using basic or NTLM authentication.
Upgrade
Existing customers can easily upgrade from version 3.1.2 to version 3.1.4 by running the new installation package over their existing installation. The upgrade will preserve the current product settings.
If your installation is running on a legacy machine, before upgrading, make sure the minimum hardware requirements are met:
- Minimum RAM memory: 512 MB
- Minimum free hard disk space: 500 MB (note that quarantine and logs will require additional space)
