Security-as-a-Service for AWS Components

Security-as-a-Service for Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a malware protection service developed by Bitdefender for Amazon Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) environments. Built on Security for Virtualized Environments (SVE) by Bitdefender, an innovative and comprehensive solution designed specifically for virtualized environments, Security-as-a-Service for AWS protects Amazon EC2 instances running Windows or Linux operating systems.

Security-as-a-Service for AWS consists of the following components:

  • Security Console– the central management component, providing a web-based interface for deploying, configuring, monitoring, and reporting on the security status of Amazon EC2 instances. Security Console also includes Update Server, the component handling all product upgrade and signature update tasks.
    Hosted and maintained by Bitdefender in the Amazon EC2 cloud, Security Console is available at the following web address: https://amazon.bitdefender.net. Service users have a unique Security Console account that is registered and synchronized with their AWS account.
  • Security Virtual Appliance– a hardened Linux-based virtual server, which centralizes and de-duplicates most of Bitdefender’s antimalware functionality. Security Virtual Appliance performs the actual scanning, by serving the scan requests of the agents installed on protected instances. Consequently, all malware signatures are stored and maintained up to date automatically by Security Virtual Appliance.
    Security Virtual Appliance is hosted and maintained by Bitdefender in the Amazon EC2 cloud. Interaction between Security Virtual Appliance and the other components is transparent to the Security Console user.
  • Silent Agent– the lightweight component that must be installed in each instance to be protected. The agent facilitates on-access and on-demand scans, by sending scan requests to the Security Virtual Appliance and applying actions according to the received scan response.
