Logging kernel core dumps
Bitdefender Antivirus Scanner for Unices is a versatile on-demand scanner for Linux and FreeBSD systems. The stand-alone scanner protects both UNIX-based and Windows- based disk partitions by scanning for viruses and spyware. Easy to use graphical user interface complements a powerful command line interface that fully supports operating systems scripting tools. The scanner works stand-alone without needing any Centralized Management or local Update Servers.
In computing, a core dump, more properly a memory dump or storage dump, consists of the recorded state of the working memory of a computer program at a specific time, generally when the program has terminated abnormally (crashed). Core dumps can serve as useful debugging aids in several situations. We can use this core dumps in order to analyse some Bitdefender Scanner for Unices errors. The most used logs signals are SIGSEGV(11) and SIGABRT (6).
In order to do this, please follow the next steps:
$su -
Set the core file size to unlimited:
#ulimit -c unlimited
Edit /etc/sysctl.conf and add at the bottom of the file:
kernel.core_pattern=/tmp/core-%e-%p-%s
or run:
#echo "/tmp/core-%e-%p-%s" > /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
Check the settings ussing:
#sysctl -a | grep core
and see that kernel.core_pattern = /tmp/core-%e-%p-%s
In case that you receive a new error, just analyse the log file from /tmp or send it to Bitdefender Bussiness Support team.
