How to troubleshoot Bitdefender Management Console connection issues

Bitdefender Client Security is an easy to use business security and management solution, which delivers superior proactive protection from viruses, spyware, rootkits, spam, phishing and other malware. It offers the following components: Bitdefender Management Server (with/without add-on), Bitdefender Local Update Server, Bitdefender Business Client and Bitdefender Management Agent;

In certain cases, you might not be able to connect to the management server using management console by encountering the following error messages:

          1.  Invalid Password while connecting to the console - the password you have entered is incorrect, therefore, you will need to try again; the default password used to connect to the management console should be admin.           2.  The Bitdefender Management Server service is stopped or the port value is incorrect  - even if this error message is explicit, we strongly recommend you to make sure of the following:

          a)  The login details you have entered are correct; If the management server is on the same machine as with the management console, the correct IP is 127.0.0.1; else, the correct IP will be the same with the target machine: e.g. 192.168.0.4; the username will always be administrator;

          b)  The following needed services for management server are started:

               ·  Bitdefender Management Server service;
               ·  SQL Server (BDMS or a different name you might have choose during install) service;
               ·  SQL Server Browser service;

          c)  The connection string is correct in the server configuration file; you will need to open the server.xml file using notepad, from the following location:

%systemdrive%:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bitdefender\Enterprise 3\Server\server.xml or
%allusersprofile%\Application Data\Bitdefender\Enterprise 3\Server\server.xml

 The connection string should point to the em3 database and to the location of the instance. For example:

" ConnectionString>![CDATA[DRIVER={SQL Server};DATABASE=em3;SERVER=127.0.0.1\BDMS;uid=sa;pwd=;]]>/ConnectionString"

         d)  The SQL Server Connection Password is correctly typed in the Bitdefender Management Console; For more details on how to reset this password, visit KB816 and KB787
