How to modify installation (add or uninstall protection modules)
Cloud Security for Endpoints by Bitdefender protects systems using security technology that has been rated number one time and time again. It does not require on-site server hardware and maintenance as it is managed by Cloud Security Console, a powerful and intuitive interface to a solution that can scale to defend any number of systems, no matter where they are located.
Protection is ensured by Endpoint Client, the client software installed on computers. Endpoint Client has been designed to protect laptops, desktops and servers (includes optimizations for servers).
For non-server operating systems, Cloud Security for Endpoints offers several protection modules:
- Antimalware
The Antimalware module protects the system against all kinds of malware threats (viruses, Trojans, spyware, rootkits, adware and so on). Antimalware protection consists of automatic on-access file scan, real-time email and web traffic scan, real-time monitoring of running applications performed by Active Virus Control and also on-demand scans.
- Firewall
The Firewall protects the computer from inbound and outbound unauthorized connection attempts. Firewall protection is essential for computers connected to the Internet, and especially when connecting directly or from unknown, untrusted networks (for example, using a Wi-Fi connection).
- User Control
The User Control module helps you control users’ access to Internet and to applications. You can block specific websites or entire categories of web content, such as social networks or video sharing websites, or configure keyword filtering rules for incoming email and web traffic. You can set time restrictions or completely block users’ access to specific applications.
- Privacy Control
The Privacy Control module is designed to protect companies and their employees against data and identity theft. It consists of Antiphishing and Data Protection. Antiphishing ensures safe web navigation by blocking and alerting the user about phishing or other potentially dangerous web pages. Data Protection prevents unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data based on administrator-defined rules.
For server operating systems, to achieve improved performance, only antimalware protection is available.
You can configure which protection modules to be installed, before installation, by customizing the installation package. You can also modify an existing installation by adding or uninstalling modules. By not installing a module, the system resources it would normally use are freed up, allowing for increased performance.
Note
For best protection, Bitdefender recommends installing all protection modules (default setting). However, in particular cases when you expect or notice performance issues (for example, on older or low performance computers), you might prefer not to install a specific module.
To select the protection modules to be installed at installation time:
1. Go to the Computers > Installation Area page.
2. Click the Customize Package button in the upper-right corner of the page.
3. Select the protection modules you want to be installed.
4. Click Save.
Note
Settings apply to all installation methods: web installer, full installation kit, remote installation.
To change which protection modules are installed on one or several computers:
1. Go to the Computers > View Computers page.
2. Click the Show menu located above the table (to the left) and choose Managed Computers.
3. If you have organized computers into groups, select the desired group from the left-side pane. To view all of your computers, right-click the root group and choose View all computers.
4. Select the check boxes corresponding to the computers on which you want to reconfigure protection.
5. Click Tasks and choose Configure modules from the menu.
6. Select the protection modules you want to be installed.
7. Click Configure to apply changes on computers. Changes will be effective on online computers within a few minutes. On offline computers, changes will apply when they get back online.
To check which protection modules are installed on a computer:
1. Go to the Computers > View Computers page.
2. Find the computer in the list. To view all of your computers, right-click the root group and choose View all computers.
3. Click the computer name to open the Computer Details page.
4. Check the status information under the Modules section.
Note
You can also modify installation locally, by logging on to the computer. To do this, you need administrative privileges and the password that protects the program (if any).
1. On the Windows Start menu, go to All Programs > Endpoint Client by Bitdefender and click Modify, Repair or Uninstall.
2. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the task.
