How to Install Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers - UNIX

Bitdefender Security for Mail Servers protects Windows or UNIX-based mail servers for known and unknown security threats with award winning proactive antivirus, antispyware, antispam, antiphishing, content and attachment filtering technologies. The solution secures organizations email services and provides increased productivity by blocking spam and providing common centralized management tools;

In order to install it you have to get the kit from here;

Depending on your OS, architecture and distribution, you may want to choose the appropriate kit.

For Linux distributions, there are rpm packages for distributions like SuSe, Fedora, RedHat, Mandriva, CentOS, deb for Debian, Ubuntu and other Debian based distributions and ipk packages for Gentoo, Slackware and other distributions that do not use RPM or Debian based package managers

We'll use a 32 bit RPM package within this article. Installation can be made only from CLI, as root:

# sh Bitdefender-Security-Mail-3.1.2-linuxgcc3x-i586.rpm.run

and press ENTER

The product contains 3 packages: bitdefender-samba, bitdefender-mail and bitdefender-radmin. This installation process contains these steps:

         1.  reading the EULA (press SPACE to scroll)

         2.  enable/disable the communication with an existing Bitdefender Management Server, in order to remotely manage the product

Bitdefender Management Server is an application installed on a machine in the network and can manage the clients with run a client application like Bitdefender Business Client.
If you want to enable this facility, you will be asked to enter the IP address and the port number which represent the communication socket with clients (the so called "Agent port")

         3.  enable/disable the email notifications about new versions and patches. If you enable this option you'll have to give additional info, like the SMTP machine IP address, the listening port.and the email address which will receive these notifications.

         4.  the script will then try to automatically detect your MTA and let you chose it or not. Bitdefender is able to specifically integtrate with these Mail Transfer Agents: Sendmail, Postfix, Qmail, CommuniGate Pro and Courier. Please note that there may be required additional steps in order to properly integrate our product into your MTA (e.g. for CommuniGate you will need to also follow the steps within our product manual). For the other agents, Bitdefender may be used as SMTP proxy.

         5.  the script will then ask to enable/disable RBL antispam filter and if enabled, you may want to chose one or more RBL server, respecting the following notation: "rbl_server:weight", where rbl_server means the name if the chosen RBL server and weight is a multiplier of 10 for the RBL score. This means that if we introduce as an RBL server bl.spamcop.net with a weight of 70, if an email hits a a RBL entry on this server, then this email will receive only from the RBL antispam filter a score of 700. The weight may be an integer value from 0 to 100.

         6.  further, you'll be asked to enter a registration key, or you may chose to continue with the trial version.

         7.  the next and final step is to set up Remote Admin (a web interface that may be used in order to easely configure and manage the product), if wanted. It requires to enter the socket address that will accept requests and a password for the default "administrator" account. The default address that will be used is 127.0.0.1 and port 8139.

For example if we want to accept requests only on the local interface with the IP address 192.168.0.1 on port 8000, we'll enter 192.168.0.1:8000 when asked, but if we want to accept requests for Remote Admin on all interfaces, we will specify it by using 0.0.0.0:8139 as listening address.

After successful install, all Bitdefender daemons should be up and running:
