How to install Bitdefender Business Client on a Windows 8 machine that is part of a workgroup

Bitdefender Client Security is a network security solution aimed at all types of businesses. Client products are Bitdefender security solutions that can be managed remotely using Bitdefender Management Server. You can install client products only on the network computers that are managed by Bitdefender Management Server (client computers).

This article describes how to install Bitdefender Business Client on a Windows 8 computer that is part of a workgroup.

Overview

The deployment mechanism of Bitdefender Client Security relies on the target operating system’s administrative shares feature in order to deploy and install Bitdefender Business Client.

Windows 8 does not have the administrative shares enabled by default, so you will have to manually activate this feature if you want to deploy Bitdefender Business Client on a Windows 8 computer that is part of a workgroup.

Installing Bitdefender Business Client on a Windows 8 computer in a workgroup

To activate the administrative shares on a Windows 8 machine, follow the steps below:

  1. Disable Windows Firewall
  2. Disable User Account Control
  3. Open the Control Panel, switch the view to Small icons and click on Folder Options
  4. In the Folder Options window, click on the View tab and uncheck the Use Sharing Wizard setting at the bottom of the list
  5. Open the Registry Editor (press Win [Windows key] + R on your keyboard, type “regedit.exe” and click OK)
  6. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System and create a DWORD key named LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy with the decimal value of 1
