How do I use my Bitdefender license key after a Windows upgrade?
This situation appears when you upgrade your operating system and you want to continue using your Bitdefender license key.
If you are using Bitdefender 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012 you can upgrade, free of charge, to the latest Bitdefender 2013 version, as follows:
- From Bitdefender Antivirus 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012 (Bitdefender Antivirus Pro) to Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013.
- From Bitdefender Internet Security 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012 to Bitdefender Internet Security 2013.
- From Bitdefender Total Security 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012 to Bitdefender Total Security 2013.
There are 2 cases which may appear:
- In the first case, you have upgraded the operating system using the Windows Update and you notice Bitdefender is no longer working. In this case, you need to reinstall the product using the newest version.

1. Remove Bitdefender, following the path from the Windows start menu:
Start -> All Programs -> Bitdefender -> Uninstall.
Wait for Bitdefender to complete the action you have selected. You will need to restart the computer to complete the process.
2. Access the installer by choosing one of the products below (the one you have a valid license key for):
3. Double click the installer to start the installation process.
4. When the registration window appears, enter the license key and click Register Now.
5. At the next step, you have the option to log in to your MyBitdefender account or create a new MyBitdefender account.
You can also choose to create a MyBitdefender account later on.
Wait until the installation process is completed and close the window.
- In the second case, you changed your system and you want to continue using the Bitdefender protection. Therefore, you need to reinstall the product using the newest version.

1. Access the installer by choosing one of the products below (the one you have a valid license key for):
