Virus looks identical to online banking page, report says
A new virus could be dangerous for online banking customers, according to security experts. ThisIsMoney's website said a virus discovered in Spain looks just like an internet banking page in an effort to get account information. Internet users should antivirus software loaded up at all times.
The website said while security pass codes from banks has helped, with cash stolen from bank accounts online falling by 32 percent in the past year, experts are warning that hackers are getting more experienced and savvy about stealing information.
An HSBC internet security banking spokesman told ThisIsMoney that malware is getting smart and can trick people into doing anything. He said it is crucial to have several layers of security, even while using secure keys on banking websites.
AsiaOne's website said banks such as OCBC, DBS and Citibank have all released warnings to users about fake versions of their websites stealing information. The malware, SpyEye, was being used to gain access past internet security measures to bank accounts of internet banking customers at the Association of Banks in Singapore, the website said.
