People who are computer savvy may be able to tell if an attachment is harmful just by the name of it; for the rest of us, there are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to virus protection.
Everyone who uses electronic mail has received a message from someone they dont know, at one time or another. Sometimes the subject line is so intriguing that we are tempted to open the email and view the attachment. This is one of the most common ways that viruses are spread, so it is imperative that you delete these emails immediately. If someone you dont know is promising you $10,000 to click here and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Some of us have heard stories of their email being hacked into, or maybe you have been a victim of this yourself. Just because you receive a message in your inbox from someone you know and trust, it doesnt necessarily mean it is from them. If there is a photo or document attached to the email, check with the person before opening it by calling them. This extra step could mean the difference between a healthy and an infected computer.
