Southwest Airlines Facebook posting for free tickets not real

A new Facebook posting claiming to give free tickets to Southwest Airlines is a scam and possible internet security breach, according to the Better Business Bureau.

"While the offer looks too good to be true, it is. Clicking on the 'like' button provides the scammers the opportunity to collect your information," according to Greg Hudson of the BBB. "They try to say that there’s only a select number of free tickets left, but when I refreshed the page, the number actually went up, perfectly outing this scam."

VentureBeat said Facebook's highlighted content stream can lead to a decrease of threats, but there are still problems even with major changes made by social networks to try and quell the amount of viruses and malware that run wild on the websites. The websites said as Facebook gets smarter, so do scammers by focusing tools on developing content such as this that seems legitimate.

Internet security software should be purchased and used, especially by those who are frequently on social media networks. That can help avoid some of the scams such as this that try to infect unknowing Facebook members.
