Sony’s Online Entertainment struck by hackers

It appears that Sony has been struck by another attack from hackers, but this time on its Online Entertainment network.

The Online Entertainment network offers multiplayer games for computer users, and, according to the company, hackers may have gained information on nearly 25 million users. To combat the attack, Sony shut down the network on May 2, due to concerns that names, addresses and birth dates may have been stolen.

This comes while the company’s PlayStation Network has been offline for weeks, following an external intrusion. Sony said it is currently working with the FBI to determine the source of the attack against the PlayStation Network.

"Our ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment systems has discovered that hackers may have obtained personal customer information from SOE systems,” the company announced.

Cyber criminals are also taking advantage of the recent death of Osama bin Laden. According to a spokesman for an internet security company, more than 100 million spam messages could occur in connection with the recent news.
