Sony recently suffered an online security breach that affected customers in Canada, Thailand and Indonesia.
The company said the cyber criminals breached its website run by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications in Canada. Sony spokesperson Atsuo Omagari said the hackers may have obtained names, email addresses and encrypted passwords of approximately 2,000 of its customers in Canada, though the company does not believe any credit card information was stolen.
As a result of the security breach, Sony has shut down the server and has began investigating immediately.
A Sony website in Thailand was attacked by cyber criminals through a phishing attack in an attempt to gain financial information of customers, and the company has since shut down the website after the attack.
One of Sony’s music websites in Indonesia was affected by unauthorized access, though no personal information was obtained, the company stated.
Sony has been dealing with cyber criminals for months now. Its PlayStation Network was shut down for a significant amount of time after hackers obtained information on 77 million of its registered users.
