Mobile security market growing in next five years, report says
With 2011 seeing an explosion of threats targeting mobile devices, the market for mobile security software market is and will remain on the rise, according to Reportlinker.com research.
The report said the amount of mobile malware more than doubled from 2010 to 2011 with over 200 new variants in the first half of 2011 alone. Cyber criminals are actively exploiting the popularity of smartphones and tablets because of low user awareness of risks. By 2016, the report said nearly every employee will have a smartphone.
With this in mind, organizations will have to learn and implement mobile security software. While the market is still in its infancy, a number of security experts are looking into and innovating new programs to help protect phones. Visiongain, which sponsored the report, expects the mobile security software market to reach $3.95 billion in global revenues by 2016.
PBS' website said to avoid smartphone security breaches, users should keep their apps updated and install new mobile security software to keep hackers at bay. The website said users should also stay away from emails, texts and apps from unknown sources.
