BitDefender, an award-winning provider of antivirus software and data security solutions, announced today that BitDefenders latest antivirus software, BitDefender 9.0, was named the top antivirus solution and received a Best Buy rating in the March 2006 issue of PC World (see review). BitDefender 9.0 beat out nine of the worlds top antivirus programs and received the highest test benchmarks for both its technical capabilities and cost.

As part of the testing procedure, PC World reviewed heuristic capabilities, response time, ability to clean up macro viruses, ease of use, technical support, the ability to detect non-wild threats and the ability to locate and disinfect 1518 known in the wild pieces of malware. BitDefender scored among the top in most categories, including the best score in heuristic detection and in the wild tests.

Heuristic detection of viruses relies upon tracking virus behaviors, not on specific signatures and thereby has become the best way to protect against the latest viruses. With one of the most advanced heuristic detection technologies in the industry, and the only heuristic detection at the desktop level, BitDefender is capable of staying ahead of the malware creators and provides automatic updates as soon as new variants of viruses are detected by BitDefender Labs.

We are very proud of the products that we have designed and recognition from PC World is a huge honor for us, commented Bogdan Dumitru, BitDefenders CTO. It is also another blow to the false idea that the best antivirus systems come from huge, monolithic security companies. BitDefender simply reacts faster, builds better features more rapidly and offers its customers better service than the so-called leaders in this space. We also do it at a price point that is much more cost-efficient than our competitors.
