Bitdefender Wins Top Spot in AV-Comparatives' Most Rigorous Test

May 2013

Only Bitdefender catches 100% of malware in acclaimed tests, widening lead on AV industry

Bitdefender, the creator of innovative global antivirus software solutions, scored #1 in a major independent international evaluation of antivirus providers, widening its already commanding lead on the industry.

Bitdefender software was the only antivirus software from all 21 firms tested to catch 100% of the malware thrown at it in the April 2013 Real World Protection Test by AV-Comparatives, the independent global antivirus testing organisation. The test – recognized by outside authorities as the organization’s most complex and comprehensive – drew competitors including Kaspersky, AVG, McAfee, Trend Micro and others.

“The results of our testing on Bitdefender were truly impressive – a score of 100% is the best you can reach,” said Andreas Clementi, the CEO of AV-Comparatives. “Bitdefender has proven to be reliable and outstanding in all of our tests.”

The award comes a month after Bitdefender scored the #1 spot in trials by AV-TEST, the other major independent analysis firm, with a perfect score for fighting off viruses, worms, Trojans and other online threats. The company also recently won a VBSpam+ Award from analysis firm Virus Bulletin for outstanding spam detection and zero false positives.

“We’ve been #1 for quite a while now but the awards we’re receiving in 2013 so far are really special,” said Bitdefender Chief Security Strategist Catalin Cosoi. “We’re not just beating all of the competition hands down – we’re beating even our own past performance. This is exactly what we set out to achieve with Bitdefender 2013.”

In an awards ceremony earlier this year, Bitdefender was named Product of the Year for 2012 by AV-Comparatives, after it scored a perfect three stars in eight rounds of testing last year. The Virus Bulletin award received in March marked four full years of success in Virus Bulletin testing, with Bitdefender winning an award in every single round of tests.
