Three out, four more to come

BitDefender for Courier version 1.6.1 was launched today at the InfoSecurity New York fair. The gateway security solution is the third to be launched in a line of seven related products, all of which are tasked with protecting Linux server mailboxes from spam and viruses. By the end of the year, the 1.6.1 generation will thus be supplemented with three more dedicated products, namely BitDefender for Sendmail, Sendmail-milter and Postfix mailservers, and with a generic SMTP proxy scanner, designed to be compatible with most other mail servers.

The new version of BitDefender for Courier features, among other things, a completely new statistics module, which implements persistent counters for emails, files and objects.Statistics are stored in an eye-friendly xml file, and can also be viewed either in console (locally) or remotely via the BitDefender Remote Admin.

Version 1.6.1 also introduces Real Time Virus Reporting (enabled by default), along with a new module, called Real Time Spam Reporting. These plugins report virus and spam activity to BitDefender Labs in order to locate threat activity and to inform users about emerging threats.

"Given the new features and the remarkable improvements in 1.6.1, plus the remarkable breadth of our product line, I expect this version of BitDefender for Linux Mailservers to be a hit, both in terms of performance and of market share" declared Mircea Mitu, BitDefender business line manager.
