Bitdefender, an award-winning provider of innovative anti-malware security solutions, understands the value of private information and is committed to protecting such information at any time in its relationship with Bitdefender customers throughout the world.
This Privacy Terms specifies the types of information Bitdefender may collect by means of the Bitdefender Safego application for social networks on the Facebook and Twitter websites. It also indicates the purpose to which such collected information will be used and the entities with whom it may be shared.
With a view to detecting potentially harmful applications and to protecting the user from e-threats, Bitdefender Safego will collect and examine the potentially harmful content and links(URL addresses) posted on such user's Facebook Wall and News Feed pages (if on Facebook) or in his/her timeline (if on Twitter) or in his direct/private messages(on Twitter); Bitdefender Safego also scans Twitter users with suspicious behavior. These links (URL addresses) can lead to web sites designed for malware dissemination or to forged web pages set up to serve in the fraudulent gathering of personally identifiable data. The content of the Facebook posts and comments as well as the content of Twitter messages (tweets) and Twitter direct messages can be part of complex scam schemes; certain Twitter accounts can be used as spam bots. The examination process enables Bitdefender to improve the way the Bitdefender Safego application works and, consequently to offer its users a higher degree of protection.
By collecting and examining the content and links (URL addresses) posted on the user's Wall and News Feed (if on Facebook) pages or in his/her timeline (if on Twitter) as well as Twitter users with suspicious behavior, Bitdefender Safego can also assess the risk the respective links pose and, consequently, warn the user before the potentially harmful web content is actually accessed. This information will not be correlated with any personally identifiable information.
All of the above-mentioned categories of information will be collected with a view to improving the accuracy of the Bitdefender Safego application and of the Bitdefender security solutions. Such information may be transferred to the Bitdefender group in the United States or in other countries. As the degree of protection provided by data security legislation may vary from one country/region to the other, Bitdefender has taken the necessary steps so that, in the event of an information transfer, the collected information will be adequately protected.
Proving its commitment to protecting the user.s privacy, Bitdefender included in the Facebook component of its Bitdefender Safego application a privacy protection feature which warns the user in case his/her public profile contains private data that can be accessed freely by persons who are not among his/her Facebook contacts. A list of categories of such vulnerable private information is displayed on the Bitdefender Safego application’s interface so that the user can adjust the privacy settings corresponding to his/her Facebook profile accordingly.
Bitdefender reserves the right to cooperate with the law enforcement or government authorities in any inquiry on Your use of the Bitdefender Safego application and to provide the documents and information requested by such authorities based on a court subpoena, or as part of a law enforcement or another type of government investigation. In keeping with its ongoing efforts to inform, educate and help users worldwide in their fight against e-threats, Bitdefender may share certain information with research organizations and other security software vendors. Bitdefender may also generate statistics based on the collected information and use them in articles/reports on the trends in the e-threat landscape. By using the Bitdefender Safego application, You acknowledge and agree that Bitdefender may collect, transmit, store, disclose and analyze such information for these purposes.
