BitDefender was the first antivirus producer to offer a security update and a free removal tool for Sober.B and C.
BitDefender virus researchers came out top of the class yet again, one hour and twenty minutes faster than anyone else, and many, many hours faster than their US counterparts, whose sleep was obviously (and predictably) not disturbed by news of an unknown virus spreading fast in Germany, of all places. This little timezone issue aside, we wish to thank our clients for keeping the RTVR module activated - if you wouldn't report infected files to us, we'd be unable to achieve such short reaction times.
Sober.B is not a high spreading virus, but Sober.C is, possibly also due to cleverly chosen soc-eng tricks, like using this: "Downloading of Movies, MP3s and Software is illegal and punishable by law." as a message body for some of the e-mails it sends. Threatening legal action to make users click the infected attachment must be an industry first; if it proves certain, the BitDefender Labs will surely maintain you well informed.
