[Product Update] New feature in Bitdefender BOX helps you take unwanted devices offline

For the past two years, we have been working tirelessly to make sure that your smart household devices stay always connected and safe from threats. But sometimes, blocking a device on the network is just as important as keeping the other ones on.

The recently released software update for Bitdefender BOX allows you to block a newly-detected device from accessing the Internet as easy as toggling a button.

Bitdefender BOX has been designed not only to protect your smart home devices against threats, but also to help you keep tabs on the increasingly high number of gadgets connected to your network. The Bitdefender BOX app shows you what devices are hogging the bandwidth and which new devices have recently joined your network.

Identity and internet access

This new feature implemented in Bitdefender BOX helps you block devices that you don’t know, don’t use anymore or revoke internet access to friends’ devices who – at some point – connected to your network. It might also come in handy if you need to temporarily disconnect devices such as your children’s smartphones or tablets during homework or after bedtime and remove any distractions that might keep them up at night.

Another significant improvement delivered along with the Internet blocking feature is enhanced detection for devices that have weak or no password to the Telnet service. Recently, the Mirai botnet – which was already famous for shutting down Internet access in the US – got back into the spotlight after successfully knocking offline one million Deutsche Telekom subscribers. The new feature allows the Vulnerability Assessment module that we introduced a while ago to prompt you when it detects a device susceptible to Mirai exploitation and also offers you remediation tips.

The meaning of Bitdefender’s mascot, the Dacian Draco, a symbol that depicts a mythical animal with a wolf’s head and a dragon’s body, is “to watch” and to “guard with a sharp eye.”
