Ports used by Bitdefender 9


Detailed description:

Bitdefender 9 offers several options that require a network connection:

  • Scan incoming mail. Scans all incoming mails transferred through POP3 (Port 110). To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click Antivirus, then Shield. To control the POP3 traffic, Bitdefender opens permanently a local port (Port 10110). Available in all editions of Bitdefender 9.
  • Scan outgoing mail. Scans all outgoing mails transferred through SMTP (Port 25). To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click Antivirus, then Shield. To control the SMTP traffic, Bitdefender opens permanently a local port (Port 10025). Available in all editions of Bitdefender 9.
  • Parental Control. This module includes two features that monitor the HTTP traffic (Port 80): Web control and Web time limiter.

    The Web Control helps you to block access to web sites with inappropriate content. To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click Antivirus, then Parental Control, and select Enable Web control.

    The Web Time Limiter helps you to allow or block web access for users or applications during specified time intervals. To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click Antivirus, then Parental Control, and select Enable Web time limiter. To control the HTTP traffic, Bitdefender opens permanently a local port (Port 10080). Available in Bitdefender 9 Internet Security.

  • Receive security notifications. Receives from time to time security notifications regarding virus outbreaks, sent by the Bitdefender server. To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click General, then Settings, and select Receive security notifications. The component bdnews.exe establishes a temporary connection on port 80. Available in all editions of Bitdefender 9.
  • Send virus reports. Sends to the Bitdefender Labs reports regarding viruses identified in your computer. It helps us keep track of virus outbreaks. To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click General, then Settings, and select Send virus reports. The component bdmcon.exe establishes a temporary connection on port 80. Available in all editions of Bitdefender 9.
  • Automatically send quarantine. Sends automatically the quarantined files to the Bitdefender Labs for further analysis. To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click Antivirus, then Quarantine. Click Settings and select Send virus reports in the Quarantine Settings. The component bdsubmit.exe establishes a temporary connection on port 80. Available in all editions of Bitdefender 9.
  • Automatic update. The Update module will connect to the Bitdefender update server and will verify if any update is available. If an update was detected, depending on the options set in the Automatic update options section, you will be asked to confirm the update or the update will be made automatically. To enable this feature, open Bitdefender, click Update, and select Automatic update is enabled. The component livesrv.exe establishes a temporary connection on port 80. Available in all editions of Bitdefender 9.
  • Crash dump submission. This option appears only after the occurrence of a critical error. It allows you to send to the Bitdefender development team information helping identify the cause of the error. The component bdsubmit.exe establishes a temporary connection on port 80. Available in all editions of Bitdefender 9.

The local ports are not displayed in the Bitdefender Internet Security firewall. All other components must be enabled in the firewall in order to function. The default configuration allows them to connect on the specified ports.

To see all the ports opened on your computer, use the command: netstat -a
