Protecting Bitdefender 9 with a password

Detailed description:

Bitdefender 9 uses a password protection for restricting the access of the unauthorized users to the product settings.

Bitdefender 9 allows regular users to modify the product settings. Previous versions of Bitdefender required administrative access rights in order to configure the product.

To enable the password protection:

  1. Open Bitdefender, click General, then Settings.
  2. Select Enable password protection.
  3. In the Password Configuration window, type the password in the specified boxes and click OK.

For security reasons, it is recommended to type in a password of at least 8 characters in length.

To disable the password protection reconfigure the password protection and type in an empty password.

If the password was lost, stop the console and repair the product:

  1. Log in with an administrative user account.
  2. Stop the Bitdefender console.

To stop the console, follow these steps:

    1. Open Windows Task Manager and click Processes.
    2. Select bdmcon.exe in the list of running processes and click End Process.

  3. Repair the product in order to modify the Bitdefender configuration and restart the computer.

The method applies only to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. On computers running Windows 98 or Windows Me, restart the computer in Safe Mode and repair the product.
